01 Overview

The Heavy, Awkward, Irreplaceable Stuff

A piano, a gun safe, a slate pool table, a marble-top dresser passed down three generations, these aren’t furniture, and they don’t belong on a standard dolly with a standard crew. Spartan Moving and Storage runs a trained specialty team for exactly these pieces, and in a city of staircases and hillsides, that experience earns its keep.

From an Over-the-Rhine walk-up to a Mason colonial, Greater Cincinnati moving crew writes the whole job as one flat number up front and holds it — no extra lines once the truck is loaded.

Pianos, Up the Stairs or Down the Hill

Tyrone Webb leads our piano and specialty crew. Uprights and grands both, we use proper piano boards, skids, and straps, remove a grand’s legs and lyre when the doorway demands it, and bring enough hands for the weight. Getting a baby grand out of a second-floor Hyde Park bedroom or up the steep approach to a Mt. Adams home is the kind of thing this crew does without drama.

Specialty Pieces We Handle

Beyond pianos, the specialty team moves the items most crews would rather not touch.

  • Gun safes, including heavy units down a full basement or out of one
  • Slate pool tables, broken down and reassembled level
  • Large shop and exercise equipment
  • Statuary, large mirrors, and marble or glass tops in custom-built crates
  • Fine art and antiques wrapped and crated individually

Built for Cincinnati Access

The hard part is rarely the piece itself, it’s getting it through an 1800s row-house stairwell, around a tight landing, or up a retaining-wall lot in Price Hill in the middle of winter. We scout the path first, pad the corners and banisters, and lay floor runners against the salt and slush. We’re a licensed Ohio mover with our own equipment and trained crew, never day labor for jobs this delicate.

Clear, Honest Pricing

Specialty handling is quoted as a plain add-on to your move, set by the piece, its weight, and the access. No mystery surcharge. Putting $90 down holds the date and is credited to the final bill, and your goods carry our standard $0.60 per pound coverage with full-value protection available.

What’s included

  • Trained piano crew with proper boards, skids, and straps for uprights and grands
  • Stair and hillside plan for getting a piano up an OTR row house or down a Mt. Adams grade
  • Gun safes, slate pool tables, and heavy shop equipment moved by the same specialty team
  • Custom crating for marble tops, large mirrors, statuary, and fine art
  • Furniture pads, corner protection, and floor runners against winter salt and slush
  • Specialty handling priced as a clear add-on, no vague surcharges on the bill

How we land on the price

We open with a short walkthrough or video survey, then set one flat Greater Cincinnati rate off your actual inventory — no hourly meter buried anywhere inside it. Whatever that quote reads is the whole price, with nothing tacked on once the truck is loaded or a winter storm pushes the date.

02 How we protect your move

Your things get handled the way we would handle our own

Each truck rolls out stocked with pads, shrink film, and heavy floor runners — ready to blanket furniture, keep hardwood and stair treads clean through snow and salted-street slush, and cushion the fragile pieces, whether it is a narrow Over-the-Rhine row house with original stairs, a full basement to clear in West Chester, or a hillside place on Mt. Adams where the only parking is the street.

Quilted pads

Dressers, dining tables, and headboards are blanketed right where they stand, padded up well before anything starts down the stairs.

Stretch film

Drawers stay shut and cushions stay clean — wrapped tight so road salt, slush, and a wet walk to the truck never touch the fabric.

Floor & stair guards

Runners down, banisters wrapped, jambs padded — the first thing we do at both homes, so steep original staircases and corners come through untouched.

Built-to-fit crating

In the room, before anything fragile leaves it, we measure a mirror, glass top, framed piece, or flat screen edge to edge and build the crate snug around it.

Break-down & rebuild

Bed frames, tables, and sectionals come apart to ride safe down tight stairwells, and our crew reassembles every one once it is through the new door.

Straps, dollies & gear

A fourth-floor walk-up downtown, a long haul up from a full basement, or the heaviest single piece in the house — each gets the right tie-downs, stair-climbers, and rigging off our truck.

03 Why us

The name painted on the truck is the name signed at the bottom of your estimate

Hire Spartan Moving and Storage and the truck at the curb is ours, the estimate is ours, and the uniformed crew easing your couch down a narrow OTR staircase is on our own Greater Cincinnati payroll — your move is never sold off to someone else. A broker runs it backward: they shop your job to whoever bids cheapest that week, pocket the spread, and wash their hands of it.

Spartan Moving and Storage
  • Our trucks, our fleet, and the full-time background-checked movers in them are on our own payroll — we never round out a crew with labor pulled off a listing
  • The number we put in writing is the number you pay — set, signed, and correct to the dollar before a single box leaves the room
  • One crew the whole way through, from the first piece down the old stairs to the last one carried into the new place
  • Full insurance backs every job, with cargo coverage up to $1,000,000; on top of that we carry the Ohio (PUCO) household-goods license and USDOT/MC authority that interstate runs require
  • One point of contact at our Cincinnati office, alongside you from the first call to the last box set down inside
What a broker does
  • Hands your move to whatever crew underbids the rest in the week you happened to call
  • Lets the total creep up once the truck arrives, padded with charges nobody mentioned the day you booked
  • Walks strangers you have never spoken to through your front door, handing your whole household to a crew nobody can vouch for
  • Leaves you guessing whose policy pays the day a dresser corner gouges a wall on the way down the stairs
  • Drops a call center between you and whoever finally turns up to load, so one plain question becomes a runaround

Questions we hear about this service

I have a baby grand on the second floor of a Hyde Park home. Can your crew get it out?
Yes. Tyrone leads our piano and specialty crew and that's exactly the kind of job they're built for. We assess the staircase and the turns, use proper piano boards and skids, take the legs and lyre off a grand when needed, and bring the right number of hands. Second-floor grands in older brick homes are routine work for us.
Is it only pianos, or can you also take a gun safe and a pool table?
The same specialty crew handles all the heavy, awkward pieces, gun safes, slate pool tables, large shop tools, statuary, and big mirrors and marble tops. These items need the right equipment and enough trained hands, which is why they're handled by our specialty team rather than a standard crew.
How does specialty pricing work on top of my regular move?
Specialty items are quoted as a clear add-on to your move, based on the piece, the weight, and the access, like stairs or a hillside carry. You see the line for what it is, no vague surcharge buried in the total. As with any Spartan job, $90 down reserves the date and is applied to the final bill.
